Malaysia is one of the smallest markets for the streaming giant, Netflix. With only 132000 subscribers in Malaysia according to a research from Statistia, Netflix wants to bring a new cheaper plan for the Malaysian viewers.
Netflix is testing a new cheaper subscription plan which will be a mobile-only plan. The plan is supposed to be half the price of the current basic plan in the country. The current basic subscription plan costs MYR 33 ($7.87) but the mobile only plan will costs MYR 17 ($4.05) per month.
Netflix said, "We are testing to understand consumer interest in a mobile only plan in some countries. Generally, we try lots of new ideas at any given time, and they can vary in how long they last and who sees them. We may not ever roll out the features or elements included in a test,"
Though the company has clearly refused to give any additional details about the countries it is currently testing in, the Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings has nullified the speculation of the streaming giant cutting the prices in the competitive markets like India.
